In an attempt to unite the few physicists working in medicine, to promote the significance of physics in the modern medicine and to establish official professional communication with colleagues around the world, in 2000 а few enthusiasts in Skopje founded the Association for Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering, as a first and unique organization of this kind in Macedonia. At the moment the association has 24 members who usually meet several times a year to discuss the professional challenges they face, to present certain activities to the other colleagues or to suggest new ways of popularization of the Association and its goals. 

Since 2004 our Association has been a member of the European Federation of Organisations for Medical Physics, and since 2007 a full member of the International Organization for Medical Physics.

The members of the Association take part in various regional and international congresses, scientific workshops and courses and by personal professional improvement gain experience that is essential for the future activities of the Association.

Among the past activities of the Association, one of the main was the First National Conference on Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering, held in Skopje, November 2007, which was very successful both at professional and organizational level.

In November 2010, in cooperation with the European Federation of Organisations for Medical Physics, our Association organized The Second Conference on Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering (www.zmfbi.org.mk/conference2010), this time with international participation. This was also a very successful event, where around 100 participants exchanged their scientific and professional ideas and results.

As far as future plans are concerned, the association will focus its activities on increasing participation at the events organized by the European Federation of Organisations for Medical Physics.
